I made these cute and simple Oreo Spiders for Mr 8’s reptile and insect party last month and I thought that they would also be a fun little treat to make for Halloween. Super easy and the kids can help as well.
INGREDIENTS
2 Packets Oreo Biscuits
1 Packet 2 Metres of Licorice (I found this at Woolworths $2.50)
1 Packet Smarties
1/2 Cup Icing Sugar
1 Tsp Water
LET’S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
- Take the licorice and unroll some of it. Cut into about 6cm lengths and then cut into thin lengths. These will be the legs. You will need 4 lengths per biscuit.
- Twist the Oreo biscuit apart. Using a knife scrape the inside cream and spread onto both sides of the biscuit. Place the four lengths of licorice across one of the biscuits and then gently press down the other side of the biscuit. Repeat until desired amount is made.
- Mix together the icing sugar and water. You want a thick paste consistency, not runny. If too runny add more icing sugar. Dip one side of the Smarties into the icing and place onto the top of the Oreo biscuit. Repeat for two per biscuit to make the eyes. Repeat until all the spiders have eyes.
Allow the icing to set and then they are ready to eat. Store in an airtight container.
