My heritage is Greek and back in 2006 I was lucky enough to spend a glorious 10 days island hoping with my Aunty (I was so lucky she could speak and understand Greek, so we had no problems getting what we needed). I remember having my first Gyros on the Island of Syros. It was ll kinds of amazing.
One ingredient stood out was the inclusion of chips, now I knew that the Greek’s loved their chips because my YiaYia (grandma) would always cook her own chips to go with steak and salad when I would go over. I have recreated this Gyros here at home, and let’s just say the memories have come flying back.
Gyros is a a Greek classic, pile the pita breads up with your fillings and fold over to enjoy this superb flavour combination.
INGREDIENTS
4 Pita Breads
500gm Lamb Leg Steak, cut into strips
1 Tbs Olive OIl
2 Tbs Greek Seasoning
100gm Tzatziki
2 Tomatoes, sliced
1 White Onion, sliced finely
2 Cups Iceberg Lettuce, sliced finely
Oven baked Chips
LET’S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
1. In a frypan heat the olive oil, meanwhile toss the lamb strips with the greek seasoning. Place the seasoned lamb into the hot frypan and cook until browned on all sides.
2. Heat the Pita breads up gently in a clean frypan or microwave until just warm. Fill with the fillings – lamb, tzatziki, tomato, onion, lettuce and chips.
Fold over and enjoy.

Er, what is “Greek Seasoning”? It would be helpful if you included its ingredients so we can make it!
Greek Seasoning can be found in the dried her section of your local supermarket. It is a pre mixed herb seasoning.
