Making a large salad of a party is a simple side dish that can be prepared ahead of time. For our last Birthday party we served a large Caesar Salad as we had a glutton of Cos Lettuce in the garden. Here are some simple steps for making your own Caesar Salad.
THE MORNING OF THE PARTY – PREP
- I used the Cos lettuce we had grown in the garden (the main reason for the salad choice). Slice into strips
- I made the croutons from bread rolls I had frozen in the freezer. Simply cut into 2cm x 2cm cubes while the bread is still frozen (makes it easier to cut) lay on a baking tray and place in the oven on 180 degrees celcius for approx 20 minutes or until the bread is dried out and golden brown. Sprinkle with a little salt while cooling.
- For the BACON slice up the rashers and place onto a lined baking tray and into the oven, turning once for approx 20 minutes or until the bacon starts to go hard. It is so much easier to cook it in the oven then deal with the splattery bacon on the stove. You can also do more other things while this is in the oven then you could do while on the stove.
JUST BEFORE SERVING
- Layout onto to a large serving tray the lettuce, followed by the croutons, bacon, parmesan cheese and then lashings of Caesar Dressing.
- Everyone can then help themselves.
